A very useful application when you are visiting China is Taxi-book. It is basically a digital database filled with up to date addresses to places that are visited by foreigners. It has a function of showing the address you are going to in Chinese and also has a voice feature that lets the driver listen to the address if he is unable to read! Very practical tool!

Hey there! It's your old (old old old) friend - Steve Gebhardt

I dig your blog! My mom directed me here.
And your dance moves can't be matched!

I've been to China a couple times too and I found some of the same nuiances there amusing as well.
I too fell victim to buying the Tea flavored tooth paste. yuck!
I bought Black Man toothpaste and had better luck with that. I wonder if the Chinese realize that it is a little derogatory to name a toothpaste that? hmm...

There are a lot of crazy adventures to be had there as I'm sure you found. Looks like you guys had a blast.

Have fun!

[...] Two years ago I was living in China. It was on a lark, really. I decided I needed a change in my life and wanted to learn a new culture, a new language, a new food. So I moved to Beijing for six months with this awesome boy I like. While I was there, traveling to far flung provinces and climbing Great Walls and studying Mandarin, I was forever on a quest to find authentic food and cooking experiences. The country did not disappoint. In no particular order, some top favorite culinary experiences included: exploring Beijing’s street food; eating Peking duck; learning to make kung pao chicken; eating kebabs on the streets of Kashgar; exploring Beijing’s ancient tea district.
